"Being up late and focused all night when you're on a line of grouper, and you are pulling fish out of the ocean, and there is no way you're going to sleep until you fish that spot dry? That carries over. Making do with what you have on board, because you can't go back to to land to get it. Working together as a team. There's four or five people on a boat. And everybody has their job and their role, but everybody works together." -Carrington Pertalion on how her first job in commercial fishing as a teenager prepared her for the entirely different field of midwifery

Carrington Pertalion is a Certified Nurse Midwife. She has practiced in Boone, NC, since 2002.
